do something a little bit unexpected I've got mystery flippers and secret swivels and everything in between so join me as I look at 10 amazing watches that do something a little bit cool and a little bit different let's begin this is a rishard Langer toron paa Merit in 750 karat Pink gold from the German watch maker aranga and Zona now the watches produced by aranga and Zona are top tier the very finest and as such this watch features some rare and elaborate complications such as a fuse and chain transmission which is a mechanical device used to equalize the waning force of the main spring in order to keep the watch running at an exact rate and a 1 minute stop-second toron Langer's own patented toron with an arresting spring stop seconds mechanism which allows the tbon and the entire movement to be stopped allowing the time to be set to the second and while these features are incredible Feats of engineering due to the prestige and unimpeachable reputation of oura and Zona when it wonderfully excessive detail and it's emblematic of Langer's fastidious approach to watchmaking and it means that only half of your time will be wasted in a mesmerized State admiring the toron thanks Langer slanger Frank Müller also known as the master of complications and the maker of one of the most complicated wristwatches in the world the eternas mega with its 36 complications and, 1483 components Frank Müller are so good at complications that they can just muck around and make complications that are Bonkers and completely useless like the crazy hours where the hours appear on the it's 10 10 there it is again 10 10 hours of fun 10 10 next we have an iconic watch from J Lut the reverso the original swiveler originally created to withstand the rigers of Polo matches with the players needing their watches to Time games while also not needing the dials to be smashed by a rogue Mallet so jels built a watch with a flippable case that allowed the dial to be reversed out of slider on the side of the case that allows you to lock the mechanism so you don't give the crystal a squeeze and start the chronograph by accident it's a unique device and one that's very satisfying to operate so satisfying in fact that you won't mind about the fingerprints on the dial now Panerai is a brand well known for making robust divers watches but this one is a serious hunk of watch even for somebody whose wrist is well jacked this is the panaray luminor submersible Pam 0193 it's got the trademark cushion case in titanium the crown guard and the next level thickness this is a watch that's ready for some diving but to top it all off this watch comes equipped with its own personal depth gauge the depth of your dive is displayed via the big yellow hand and your last depth rating can also be recorded and stored in the watch and reviewed again at any time later by pressing the Pusher at 9:00 on the side of the case the integrated depth gauge can record Dives of up to 120 M so despite looking like it could survive a plunge into a volcano it's more suited for sports diving and recreational scuba diving as opposed to deep diving pretty awesome one of the four runners when it minute repeater this watch features the bvl 362 movement which measures only 3.12 mm in thickness and houses a minute repeater complication with its circular gongs affixed to the inside of the case squeeze The Pusher on the side of the case and the Hammers will strike the gongs to chime out the minutes quarter hours and hours the matte gray dial is partially skeletonized by way of cutout hour markers which allow for greater amplification of the chime through the front of the watch and despite being insanely thin for a minute repeater it's also beautifully finished it's an extraordinary watch let's hear it for the Bulgari boys the Zenith Chrono Master is an iconic watch featuring one of the oldest calibers still in production the PowerHouse El promero movement inside with its high beat rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour you get a really smooth sweep of the chronograph hand so that's pretty cool but here we have the Zenith chronomaster open with a 1/10th of a second chronograph and a central secondhand that makes a full rotation of the dial in just 10 seconds so that's also pretty cool but now here we have the Zenith defi L prero 21 with a 100th of a second chronograph and a cental secondhand that makes a full rotation in just 1 second so that's pretty insane this watch has two escapements that work independently one to regulate the time and the other to power the wildly wacky chronograph look at it go on to Rolex next who at one time relied on zenith's El promero caliber to power their Daytona watch for over a decade it took Rolex until the year 2000 to produce its own automatic chronograph movement for the day owner which is fairly recent in watch years and it's quite funny when you realize that Rolex has been developing its own electronic watch movements since the 7s Rolex doesn't like to shout about it now of course but it was making quartz watches long before most other companies and here on this Rolex Oyster quartz Day date you can see the electronic beat of a quartz secondhand Rolex made oyster quartz versions of its datejust and Day date models due to overwhelming interest in quartz pieces throughout the' 70s and the oyster quartz collection continued right up until 2001 which is fairly recent in watch years but the most surprising thing about this Rolex however is how nicely finished the quartz caliber inside is the 5055 caliber is a rather handsome thing I think and it's also highly collectible and it's believed that fewer than 25,000 Rolex Oyster quartz models were ever made this is the line hour angle watch a watch originally created in partnership with Charles Lindberg whom after becoming the first man to fly non-stop from New York to Paris turned to lene for help in developing a watch that could help other solo Pilots to navigate more safely this watch the lene hour angle is faithful to the one created by lene and Lindberg in 1931 and it includes a rather interesting feature a feature that allows pilots to measure longitude and find their geographical position so here's the general gist of how it works first you'd use a seant to determine your latitude easy enough then you'll need to use your astronomical Almanac in order to position the bezel correctly to display the difference between civil time and solar time straightforward then you can use the hour minute and second hands to track the rotation of the earth in order to find the hour angle of the grenage meridian and your current position or something so for every hour that passes the World Turns 15° this is displayed in the central disc and is tracked by the hour hand then for more accuracy you can track the world turning by a single degree every 4 minutes and this is highlighted on the bezel along with a 15minute Arc which basically equates to a quarter of a degree and then all you need to do to determine your longitude is to take those two measurements the hour angle of your current location and that of the grenage meantime and just work out the difference between the two simples and all it is then is if the longitude obtained is a positive number then that number is west of grenage and if the longitude is negative it's east of grenage and then that's your exact location probably happy trails next we have a watch that has been smashing conventions revolutionizing watchmaking and just generally being disruptive and is also crazy this is the Uli nardan freak where the watch movement itself acts as the hands and is used to tell the time it features a 1hour Carousel and a 28,800 Beat rate and there's no Crown either in order to set the time you need to rotate the entire movement using the bezel until the pointy bits are pointing in in the right direction to display the correct time and then to wind the watch you need to give the case back a Twist whereupon the large main spring can be seen coiling up through a little window on the case back how about that the freak is unique well there you go those were 10
