hello and welcome to the sunny shores of Rhode Island I'm here for the audre Newport Concord to elegance and I'm joined by a few friends for a really fun little lawn Walk we're going to try and connect automobiles with the fascination with watches and first up we've got Mr Donald Osborne who is the CEO of the audrin group and then we have Mr Wilhelm Schmidt the CEO of aonga enzon and finally we have Mr Nick Waller the executive director of the audr Newport Concord to Elegance presented by a longa enzone well done I did that on one breath look the truth is we're here to look at some incredible cars I couldn't be more excited this is one of my favorite things to do walk around on a sunny day and look at cars so let's get started should we start with these I think that's a good start that is a great very good start and Donald as we Mark our way over why don't you give people the background on why we're here why all these incredible cars are here this amazing lawn the audre Newport Concor and motor week is held throughout sites in Newport we are not just in the city we are of the city uh great sites like the rough Point Mansion of Doris Duke the international Tennis Hall of Fame designed by mckm me and white the of course the historic a drain automobile museum building at f itself Newport is living history and I think that connects with both the cars and of course with watches as well and of course you have great organizations like the uh preservation Society of Newport County that runs the breakers uh this incredible Vanderbilt Mansion whose lawn we're uh walking across right now and the theme of the dra Newport conquer delance is history luxury sport all right so we're here with this beautiful Fiat and we did a little walk earlier today to kind of scope out some of our faves what Drew you to this will first of all I like that otu you know the eight because they thought V8 is protected by Ford Company in in America that's where Fe we better you know do it the opposite that's why it's otu which sounds quite strange but actually you know I love that aut and I love that story and there are many different variations of them I drove I think two different even the stock standard one is a beautiful car and I'm a huge fan of OD bolts and I think that is what you can beautiful but it's a odd ball you know it's not a car that you would see anywhere how many did they produce 100 three three so I wasn't bad in my Cas very unusual and great car on our way to the BMW just mention this Porsche which was the first Porsche to win a major prize in competition winning his class at Lal it's probably one of the most important racing courses ever and the fact that it remained in private hands is also quite remarkable it lived an incredible life in the US with its top cut off and uh Emory Motorsport one of the leading Porsche restorers and uh and Builders was entrusted with recreating the top to make it back to that original Leon configuration and the work is just absolutely amazing and it's about what 40 horsepower exactly yes exactly you wouldn't think you go racing with 40 you have all the different C you have that little the right kind of before and thenes good horses for and uh it's it's all about power weight ratio and all the things that made of the Giant Killer and established the brand it's absolutely amazing and I think there's a reason that they stopped covering the front wheels in normal traffic you know it's probably a little difficult parking every every inch of aerodynamics their thought great aerodynamics today we've got huge wings and underbody was purely for the M science straight just amazing so we've made it to the BMW and a stunning one it is Nick what can you tell us about this car well this is owned by Don Law Donald La uh it is one of the most beautiful um BMW 328s in the world just finished restoration um I think this is the first first time it's been shown um I think BMW built less than 450 328s in during the years today today they know about 800 was it 800 I know what you mean exactly exactly but they are such special cars and such special cars to the history of BMW and the history of so many post-war British cars as well we'll learn a bit more about that as well these gentlemen were nice enough to have me enter my 39 B BMW 32 stroke 28 2 years right Y and I wound up doing Hilton Head and I'm on the lawn and I have all these AC's and all these bristles across to me and I'm saying we all have my engine yes it back British took as War reparations Etc that's right and of course this was you know the first modern sports car rack and pinion steering won 300 races it won Lon Melia nberg ring you know um and it's uh a remarkable piece of engineering so I may not win the beauty contest I win the no F the drop but it is such an important car for the BMW history functional functional Beauty and uh it's not the World of Watches absolutely functional Beauty you got to make both work thank you you prepared so you kept it so much I really appreciate you gentlemen what a wonderful event done look at these two aren't they just beautiful side by side but let's talk about this first the these two cars are absolutely quintessential example of post-war racing in America when people really went crazy and it was a time when you owned your car you drove it from home to the racetrack raced it and drove it back home and cars like this this is the uh PBX it was built by a film named uh candy pool in Connecticut and it was one of the most successful race cars in the H modified class in Seca in the 1950s and H modified cars are cars with under 1 L engines is running a coverage and climate Max uh engine right now and it was absolutely amazing it stayed in the family for years and years and years decades and decades was very well known in both period racing and then in historic racing wow and uh now it's been spectacularly restored but the owner Santos badaro still uses this car in racing last weekend this car was racing at Lime Rock Park that's cool and it's absolutely amazing and the fact that you know again all these cars are historical documents they're they're time machines because they take you back to the that they were created and restoring a race car is also a challenge because you have to pick that moment in time which race which event at what period absolutely and what because race cars were always changing you do one season and you go actually no I'm going to tweak this and going to change that so yeah that is you want to win I you want to win I had one of those cars similar to this which was used for race and to get to race and back and of course the original engine got missed and eventually I I met the son of the original owner and I said do you have any any idea where the original engine is and he looked at me and he said which original engine you me that's it exactly yeah yeah let's head back and check out a very large watch oh LS oh my God yes big one one not the one on my time what is it time time for us to go check out the large watch all right so we made it to the very large watch and obviously this event is very important for all the sponsors but certainly I'm curious will home from Long's perspective why why participate in an event like this in in Rhode Island it's you know years back we said we love our watches but we need a platform you know where we can bring our clients and expose them to something different but also where we will see people that probably are attracted by what we do and it's very hard to find these specific areas because I mean I would never do something which is not matching with our set of values and craftsmanship we saw a lot today think about how many skilled Health it needs to to maintain these cars history we saw a lot I think that that summarizes it nicely and I I'm I'm of the Thor of belief I'm not the only man or person on the planet that loves cars and watches absolutely I mean you guys must see this with everything right the natural pairing and also I have to say this that uh langa and Zera is also the the perfect partner for the Concord because what we stand for what the event is about what the City of Newport is about it's quality that endures I think that marriage of craftsmanship Artistry Beauty enthusiasm it's summed up in the watch world and in the car world I always say you know when I send photos of that event to my children they ask me is dy is that what you call work yes we're very lucky people and I think that reminds me what gring time we have here and um you know watches and cars and cars and watches was my life so I'm very happy here yeah this is a a truly fantastic event thank you Donald Nick wilham thank you so much for touring us around the lawn a little bit perfect and uh for everyone watching thanks so much for joining us andk you come to the show next year
